THE regeneration of the Hafod Copperworks thanks to more than £500,000 grant funding has been welcomed by a local councillor.
Work will start next year on new tourist trails and a visitor gateway, with an annual celebration of the copper industry and its local and global history also in the plans.
Archaeological work will be undertaken to reveal any of the site's hidden features and information signs will be added to highlight buildings of importance.
The canteen and laboratory buildings will be stabilised and opportunities made available for community and school visits.
Lib Dem councillor for Hafod, Rob Speht, said: "This is fantastic news. A big part of the Tawe Riverside Corridor Strategy includes the restoration of our unique industrial heritage.
"Eventually the west bank of the Tawe will be fully redeveloped from Unit Superheater to the Liberty Stadium allowing Morfa Road to be extended and this will form a bypass for Hafod."
